Venue

This year, BiCon will be returning to the same venue as 2017, the Headingley Campus at Leeds Beckett University. We had site visit at the end of February, and produced an Access Report and some Venue videos, and and will have more information about the venue soon, including photos.

There are maps of the venue here.

Getting there

BiCon registration is immediately in front of the accommodation reception at Carnegie Village. Please see below for how to get to the campus by various means. If you are driving, follow the directions in the next section to the car park rather than trying to get to registration directly, as you won't be ab=le to park.

By Car

Leeds has good motorway links to the M1, M62 and M621. Headingley Campus is close to the outer ring road (A6120).

Approaches to Leeds City Centre from the:
  • North: A1-A58
  • East: M62 to J29 then M621 to J3
  • South/South East: M1 to J43 then M621 to J3
  • West: A65 via Kirkstall
  • North-west: A60 via Headingley

Please note that the A660 (Woodhouse Lane/Headingley Lane/Otley Road) from the city centre is very busy at peak times.ย

If you are using a SatNav please use the postcode LS16 5LF (Churchwood Avenue) to direct you to Headingley Campus. There are other postcodes associated with the campus, but that one will get you approaching on the correct road.

Parking

BiCon attendees can park in the Pay and Display car park next to the campus entrance. There is no charge; the car park is free during August.

From Otley Road you turn down Churchwood Avenue and drive to the end. The road slopes upwards and at the end of the road you will find the security entrance to the campus. The Pay and Display car park is the turning in the right just after the 10mph sign and before the security kiosk.

Basically, turn right just after here.

When you have parked, follow this route to BiCon registration (we will also put up signs).

Electric car charging

The Pay and Display car park has two Genie Point electric car charging stations.

Accessible parking

There are a very few wheelchair-accessible parking spaces near the accommodation. If you need one of those, email biconuk2022@gmail.com, because we need to let the venue know.

For these, the SatNav destination is 'Wharfe, Leeds LS6 3GZ', but be aware that the campus has a one-way system that not all SatNavs know about. The map below shows the preferred route to drive there, including from the St Chad's Drive entrance, in case the SatNav takes you that way.

Map showing the route to the accessible parking

Once you have parked in one of the wheelchair-accessible spaces, BiCon registration is a little way further up the road which then turns into a paved path (see photo below).

Once you have parked and registered, you will be able to get a pass to display in your car window from the Accommodation office. This will be valid even if you don't have a blue badge, even though the signs around the parking say otherwise; they're for term time.

Please only use these parking spaces for accessibility, and only if you have notified the team in advance. They are not for general loading and unloading.

Rail

Leeds mainline station is about 3 miles (4.8km) away from Headingley campus, with a taxi rank across from the New Station Street entrance. The 1 and 1B buses to the campus stop on Sovereign Street (exit at New Station Street, turn left, cross over the road, turn right until you reach the bus shelter). Connecting trains from Leeds to Headingley train station run every 30 minutes.

Headingley Campus is approximately one mile (1.6km) from Headingley train station (off Kirkstall Lane, Leeds LS5 3LD).
