I'm just writing to give an update on the accommodation situation for BiCon 2022. The team took this event on knowing that if there wasn't a residential BiCon, the community would lose over ยฃ12,000 that has been carried over year on year for venue deposits.
As we expected, ticket sales have been noticeably lower this year than previously – which has been the case for many other in-person events as well. This means that we had a very hairy month when we weren't sure whether we could afford the venue (which costs over ยฃ30,000 to hire) and were looking at having to lose the deposit and move the event to online only.
However, we're pleased to report that the venue has given us some flexibility and has offered us 50 bedrooms at the original arrangement, and as many further bedrooms as we need at ยฃ44 per person per night. This means that we can afford to use the venue without making a massive loss, which is brilliant news.
We've sold well over 50 residential tickets already, and any tickets bought before the closing date will be covered by our sliding scale prices. Then if you want to book after that, you can book at the ยฃ44 rate, plus the cost of a non-residential ticket.
